Text Box: CUT
Peter Denby, Jr.
When we get a cut it usually is because somebody has done something wrong (mistake, not paying attention or plain stupidity).
Then we need to get it taken care of If it is bad enough, someone will need to bring the edges together, either with butterfly or regular stitches. This way there can be healing, a merging of two into one. A scar may remain as a reminder of what has happened and a reminder to not allow it to happen again.
The pain is there to be a deterrent also. It is something we may well remember and want to avoid in the future.
Infection may also be there and so it’s unwanted. Infection is our body fighting an invader. Today we are required to use stronger and stronger antibiotics to fight this infection.
This is not just a talk of medicine. I am here to bring forth God’s Word. So….
A cut with God is indeed caused by somebody having done something wrong - SIN.
Romans 3:23-26 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Like a cut separates two parts, sin separates us from God. Unfortunately we can not go to a surgeon to get stitches to solve the problem. Fortunately we have the Great Physician - Jesus. We can be healed without stitches, however the shedding of blood is definitely required. Jesus blood was shed for our sins, that separate us from God. Jesus is the healer we need.
As with the cut that gets infected some of us heal from our sinful life at different speeds. The devil will impart “infection” into our healing spiritual cut. This requires stronger anti-devil medication - Going deeper in to God’s Word.
2 Peter 2:15-19 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Many times I have wondered why I remember those times I have made mistakes. Remembering these things is hard and feels uncomfortable. I finally realized that the statement of George Santayana are the reason. “Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.” If we forget what we did before Christ how will we learn NOT to do it again. Yes we know what is wrong from God’s Word but memories put God’s Word in to prospective and give us a greater understanding how God’s Word affects us. So the scar is important too.
The pain of a cut is important for many reasons. It is there to warn us there is a problem and to remind us not to do this again. Continuing pain means the problem has gotten worse. There should be pain in becoming a Christian. We need to realize we were separated from God and that this separation has hurt God. It also needs to be a time where we realize that we have found our way home. A merging of two into one. We may not have the power and knowledge of God YET, but we will when we get home with Him.
Finally, the healing time is affected by our past experiences, including our upbringing. We need to realize that we have taken the right exit on to the narrow way but that the narrow way still has plenty of potholes (except after the pearly gates). We will all heal at different rates from the separation from God and the separation from His law of grace. All sin, which is separation, is equal with God.
Matthew 12:31 Why I say to you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven to men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven to men.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
James 2:10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
