Hebrews 12:25-29 See that you do not renounce him who speaks. For if they did not escape when they renounced him who divinely-warned them on the earth, much more we may not escape who turns away from him who warns from heaven; whose voice then shook the earth. But now he has promised, saying, ‘Still once for all, I do not shake the earth only, but also the heaven.’ And the saying, still once more, indicates the transfer of those things which are shaken, as of things that have been made, in order that those things which are not shaken may remain. Wherefore, receiving an unshakable kingdom, we may have grace, by which we may give divine service in ways well pleasing to God with reverence and godly-fear; for our God is a consuming fire.

2 Peter 3:9- 3:18 The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some deem slowness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but all to make room for repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a crashing sound and the elements will be dissolved, burning with scorching heat, and the earth and the works which are in it will be burned up. Therefore these things are all to be dissolved, seeing what sort of things you ought to possess in all holy conduct and godliness, expecting and diligently wanting the presence of the day of God, because of which the heavens being on fire will be dissolved and the elements will melt, burning with scorching heat. But, according to his promise, we are expecting new heavens and a new earth, in which dwells righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, expecting these things, be diligent that you may be found in peace, unstained and unblemished in his sight. And deem that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; also just as our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you; as also in all his letters, speaking in them about these things; in which somethings are difficult to perceive, which the unlearned and unestablished twist, as they do also with the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. Therefore beloved, knowing beforehand these things, you guard yourselves that you might not fall from your own firmness, being led away with the error of the insubordinate. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him is the glory both now and forever. Amen.

I. Both of these verse selections refer to the idea of God that will create a consuming fire and replaced by a new kingdom (or extension of the current unshaken Heaven):

A. indicates the transfer of those things which are shaken, as of things that have been made, in order that those things which are not shaken may remain.

II. Both of these verse selections refer to consuming fire:

A. for our God is a consuming fire

B. in which the heavens will pass away with a crashing sound and the elements will be dissolved, burning with scorching heat, and the earth and the works which are in it will be burned up.

III. Both of these verse selections refer to the fact that we need to listen to God and act on what we are told:

A. See that you do not renounce him who speaks. For if they did not escape when they renounced him who divinely-warned them on the earth, much more we may not escape who turns away from him who warns from heaven; whose voice then shook the earth.

Wherefore, receiving an unshakable kingdom, we may have grace, by which we may give divine service in ways well pleasing to God with reverence and godly-fear; for our God is a consuming fire.

B. Wherefore, beloved, expecting these things, be diligent that you may be found in peace, unstained and unblemished in his sight. And deem that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation;

Therefore beloved, knowing beforehand these things, you guard yourselves that you might not fall from your own firmness, being led away with the error of the insubordinate. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him is the glory both now and forever. Amen.

IV. Both of these verse selections refer to fearing and reverencing God:

A. Wherefore, receiving an unshakable kingdom, we may have grace, by which we may give divine service in ways well pleasing to God with reverence and godly-fear; for our God is a consuming fire.

B. To him is the glory both now and forever. Amen.
